The 2025 City League team champion was Obama Academy, which defeated Carrick, 65-10, in the semifinals and Allderdice, 40-35, in the finals. The Eagles were defeated, 74-0, against Norwin in the opening round of the PIAA Class 3A team tournament. In the individual championships, Obama edged Allderdice, 159-158, for the team title. Its champions were Mikel Jordan (114), Charles Bottoms (133), Daniel Cabiness (152) and Shawn Scott (189). Allderdice had five champions. They were Xander Henteleff (107), Heney Caruso (127), Aviv Biamant (160), Tom Patermoster (172) and Jhamir Rainey (285). The Greensburg Central Catholic and Shady Side Academy girls basketball teams had their share of battles last season. After the Bulldogs swept GCC in two Section 2 games, the Crusaders got revenge in the WPIAL Class 3A final, winning 56-51. Both teams return talented rosters and again should contend for section, WPIAL and possibly PIAA titles in Class 3A. Several others in the classification are hoping to find their way into the conversation as well. Norwin junior Landon Sidun is considered the top 120-pound high school wrestler in the nation. The Penn State commit was named to the first Nike Wrestling Preseason All-American Team, announced Monday night by FloWrestling.com. He was the only WPIAL wrestler to make the list. Sidun, who is back to 100 percent after a broken right hand cost him the WPIAL and PIAA postseason last winter, is 72-2 for his career. He won a PIAA title as a freshman. They lost to Montour in the opening round of the playoffs.
